200+ Visit Our Table at the Zoo on Autism Acceptance Day

Practice Administrator Patricia Silverio welcomed visitors to the Special Smiles table.

Attendance was high on the beautiful April Sunday when the Greater Philadelphia Autism Society held its annual Autism Acceptance Day event at the Philadelphia Zoo. Special Smiles sponsored the event, hosted an information table, and provided event tickets to all staff members and their families.

Special Smiles founder Mark Goldstein, DDS, and practice administrator Patricia Silverio greeted a steady stream of visitors to the table, including – to her surprise – her daughter, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. Ms. Silverio said she was “hoarse but happy” at the end of the day and reported giving away more than200 “goodie” bags and T-shirts. Three visitors won a raffle for $50 gift cards.

Penni Morton was a winner of a different sort. The co-owner of Kamp for Kids, a free camp for children with autism, she stopped by the table to introduce herself and her mission, which inspired Special Smiles to donate 150 toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste for the campers.
